On lens sharpness RE aperture size- (this is my understanding of it, feel free to correct me if you find error) ;When the aperture is wide open, light from the more compromised outer part of the glass is cast onto the CCD resultingin a fuzzy image. When smaller apertures are used, thelight passing through the outer part of the lens is "cropped" out of the image that is cast onto the CCD. However when very small apertures are used a different type of distortionbecomes more important.Light passing the edge of the aperture is diffracted (bent). At small apertures, thediffracted light is a greater percentage of the whole image, so it begins toaffect image quality in a noticeable way.

It is my understanding and belief that f8- f11 are the sharpest apertures in most lenses.
