I've read around enough to betoo wary to buy a knock-offbattery. I want the realdeal, so I don't kill my A1.

After searching on the webto buy one - all I seeis the cheapo crap. Nextag, PriceGrabber, Shop.com,Amazon, ect. ....they all show & sell the third party "leak & fry" ones.

Where do I find a GENUINE KonMin NP-400 battery?

Thanks

Maybe it wasn't what you wanted, but he did do a little legwork for you.

FYI,
I got the MAXELL equivalent for my 5D from CC $19.95; No problems for over a month and actually lasts longer than the KM one. I use the same charger that came with the camera.

Here you go, I found a genuine NP-400 for sale. You'll see it listed in the "Item Includes" tab:

Package including a "genuine" NP-400 at B&H

Look, if you don't want to trust a third party battery, that's OK. But, KM accessories are getting pretty hard to come by right now. Your best bet is probably a local camera shop that sells KM gear (versus any of the better known vendors).

The turnover to Sony should complete in a couple of weeks.

After that, you should be able to get a better feel for what your options will be going forward. I suspect (speculation) that we'll see the same accessories inside of a Sony box, with a Sony part number.

Jim, that 5d kit doesn't specify whether or not it includes a genuine Minolta battery. What if you're wrong? Then I'm out $700 and still have to find a battery.

B&H has a very good return policy (you've got 7 days on digital gear to check it out and make sure you're satisified). Restrictions may apply so make sure you read their policies. ;-)

I doubt that KM makes batteries. Most batteries are made by a few of the big name manufacturers and branded for KM, HP, Nokia, etc. Yes, some of the cheap batteries should probably be avoided, but if you buy an Energizer, Sanyo, etc. from a reliable source, you should have no problems.

I have purchased batteries other than the OEM brand for all sorts of things for many years and have never had a problem.
