Help, I'm not sure if this is the right forum but I just bought a Minolta 2X M/A converter S. I want to use my old MD lenses on my new 7D. This is advertised to adapt MD lenses to the Minolta AF mount. It does that but I come up with a no lens attached error. I have read on another forum that you have to disable the lens mount switch or something like that. Can someone who as actually made one of these things work help me. How do you dissable the lens mount or whatever to get these to work or is it a lost cause?

Set Shutter Lock to Off. You'll find it under Custom Menu 3:

Custom Menu Section 3:
  • Shutter lock:
    • On - Prevents shutter from opening with no lens attached, avoiding the exposure of the CCD to dust
Off - Allows shutter to open with no lens attached; use when attaching camera to a microscope or telescope
    [/*]
  • AF area setup:
    • Illuminates the AF point for .3 or .6 seconds following autofocus lock, or turns AF point illumination off
    [/*]
  • Monitor disp.: Monitor Display Setup
    • Automatic - Viewfinder eye sensor turns the LCD monitor on and off
Manual - Display button turns the LCD monitor on and off
    [/*]
  • Rec. display: Recording Display Setup
    • Auto rotate - Rotates LCD monitor display to vertical when camera is held in portrait orientation
Horizontal - Fixes LCD monitor display to horizontal
    [/*]
  • AS finder disp: Anti-shake Viewfinder Display Setup
    • Turns on or off the anti-shake scale in the viewfinder
    [/*]

Thank you so much. I feel really dumb now. It's in the manual burried somewhere. I just tried it and I am very happy with the results on an old 200mm Rokor lens. I have also found a rare Nikon to minolta Af adapter that will let me use a whoel slew of Nikon lenses tha a friend of mine has.

Some of the old Nikkor to Maxxum adapters advertise aperture control. But, that only works on very early Maxxum models.

BTW, it appears that you only need a 1.4x converter to focus to infinity using MC/MD mount lenses (a 2x TC is not needed on KM DSLR models).

So, you may want to keep an eye out for a converter that doesn't require as much magnification (with associated image degradation).
