Sigma 28-70 3.5-4.5 at 28 mm f3.5. Not agood comparison shot, I have to admit.I will reshoot it,tomorrow, so theexposure and framing is the same...Both of these arequitesoft.

you should check out some tokina lenses too. im getting one in the mail soon, the 80-400 atx.

I saw the Tokina 28-70 and 100-400 on ebay for $129 for both. I think they are generally considered higher quality than Vivitar. But I just won an auction for the Vivitar Series 1 100-400 for $60. They seem like decent lenses to me and hold up their head high in any comparisons.

Ok, I am willing to concede where I err. The Minolta 18-70 kit lens actually compares well in the lower zoom range. It matches my Sigma 28-70 in sharpness at 28 mm. See below. Even at 70 mm the difference is not that great in my shots today...
