Well I am glad I had some wrong details. My info was based on a very quick look at a prototype, hence my comment about the picture from Letsgodigital, however I had no time to see the model number,(small at the back of the body)Sony called that Alpha 1 because there is a higher spec model coming later on, my impression is that it will be ready in February, but could be at Photokina. The sensor is not as I was told the R1 CMOS as I was told, admittedly that came from someone that has no technical knowledge of digital cameras. At the time I was told no Zeiss lenses and a total of 23 "Sony" lenses would be available. Now they list 22 Sony and 3 Zeiss branded lenses. So only a few weeks ago even Sony executives did not have the full story. Again my reason for posting some details was to counteract the "weird look" and "movie mode" claims.Overall the specs are better than expected.

I look forward to a toe-toe shootout between the Alpha and the 7D on one of the review sites. Hopefully soon...

If the Alpha wins, I'll just smack it with 7D... that ought to even things out.

Selling is not shipping. They're just taking preorders, and they're not even discounting it yet from list price.

"Availability: This item will be released on August 1, 2006. You may order it now and we will ship it to you when it arrives. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com"

If you want to pay full price, even Sony's online store is taking preorders (with a closer expected ship date, too).

We've been waiting for an upgrade to the 7d (hoping for it in the 9d). Is this the upgrade we've been waiting for?

How does the Alpha compare to the 7d (besides going from 6 to 10mp)?

Will all the new lenses from Sony work on the K/M D7 & D5? I did read where the old lenses will fit on the A100 but did not see anything about the new fitting on the old.

This is more of an upgrade to the 5D.

At least two *reviews* stated that they are backwards compatable.
