I did this photo with my Tamron zoom 200-500mm at 500mm with the 2X Tamron converter. No tripod, no help.

1/800 sec, f/13
Mode: Tv
Metering: Multi-segment
ISO: 250
White balance: Auto
Flash: Off

It would be a lot more interesting if you'd also taken the same shot without AS so we could see the effect. 1/800 at 1000mm dosent sound too demanding, and your pic looks a little soft anyway.

I agree. this by itself doesn't mean much. but we all know that AS works and gains 2-3 f-stops. The softness in this image is due to the 2x Teleconverter, not image shake. That's about as sharp as it gets with the converter.
