I have an opportunity to purchase a KM 5D...from Ritz. Is Sony continuing to service the 5D? I have heard 7D owners being told there were no parts for repair. I was hoping for the A100, but so far posters seem to prefer the 5D. Thanks. donna

I've been hearing a lot of stories where they "dont have parts" and buy-back or replace with an a100 instead of fixing. The internet really skews this kind of thing though, squeky wheel and all that...

Do you have a 5D...or know if they are as good as I have been hearing. I have an E-500 and like it but want image stablization. dg

I have a 5D and love it, there isnt all that much room for improvement. I'd like the external controls of the 7d now that I know what everything does, but I'm lukewarm about the A100. If the features/price/availible lenses jive with your needs, the 5d wont let you down. A few pics from saturday:

Replacing with A-100 is an urban legend. They are buying back some cameras.

Yes, the official line from Sony appears to be that where a camera under the original KM standard warranty is unrepairable (most ususually because of a lack of parts) the camera will be bought back by Sony. Buyback is the only option, they will not replace the broken camera with an A100 or a P&S model.

So far all the threads that I have seen concerning this situation relate to the 7D. I expect that 5D's break down too, so I can only assume that the parts situation must be better for them at the moment.
