Has anyone used the Sunpak auto 383 Super with the 5D.
If so does it or will it work with this camera. I know you will need
to use the FS-1100 adapter with it. But wasn't sure if the flash was
compatible with this camera.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,

Stoltzy

Yes, it will work with the Minolta FS-1100 (or third party equivalent) adapter.

It's got 3 Auto Aperture Ranges plus Manual Power Settings.

You need to use Manual Exposure on the Camera (since they won't talk to each other), setting the camera to match the Aperture for the selected Auto Aperture Range on the Flash, tweaking shutter speed as desired for the amount of Ambient Light you want to let in.

Several of our forum members are using similar Sunpak models. I've got a Sunpak 333 Auto that I use from time to time with a 5D via a third party adapter that's equivalent to the FS-1100.

The trigger voltage for the Sunpak 383 Super is around 6 volts. That should be fine. My 333 Auto tests at around 8 volts (and I'm not worried about it either).
