Looking for best sharpness results which of these would best perform on something like a Nex-5n or C3 ....
The 18-200mm (Nex) or the 16-80mm f/3.5-4.5 (Carl Zeiss) with adapter ?

I'm using 29 lenses (from 8mm to 500mm) for NEX5 - one sharper than the other :-)

The Sony/Zeiss SAL-1680Z is sharper than the Sony SEL18200, but it's not stabilized on a NEX body, and it won't AF on the $200 LA-EA1 adapter, only the $400 LA-EA2 adapter.
If you're going to buy a NEX body with the LA-EA2, why not just buy an SLT-A35?

My point being was to have a small high quality package , why don't sony do like samsung (30mmf/2 pancake - 85mm f/1.4) and deliver decent lenses for their nex system ?
