Has anyone triggered a HVL-58 or 56 with the NEX-6 pop-up flash?

G'day mike
I don't know what an "HVL-58 or 56" is so my reply is 'generic' Many external flashguns that have the slave-flash option, offer multiple sync methods for the trigger. ie- slave fires after 1st or 2nd or 3rd flash from source camera Q: could another sort of flashgun work for you? also - more info on your project would help too Regards, Phil

Hello Phil
I'll explain things more clearly. With the question asked in such a brief way, I was hoping that anyone familiar with the Sony flash system would jump in and give me a quick yes or no. The HVL-20, HVL-42, HVL-43, HVL-56 and HVL-58 were flash units made by Sony that used the Minolta proprietary flash shoe. Sony has now changed their flash shoe on the NEX-6 and A99 form their (Minolta) proprietary iISO hot-shoe type to the standard type ISO hot-shoe. So what that means for those of us who have invested $$$$ into the old iISO flash equipment is that our gear won't work without the new ADP-MAA adapter. It's my guess that Sony is going to introduce new video accessories for their newer cameras. I'm sure that they will introduce some new flashes also. But the bottom line for NEX-6 users is that your existing Sony iISO flashes will not work without an adapter. You cannot trigger your flashes with the pop-up flash on the NEX-6. Too bad.

Mike - as you might remember from other posts of mine, I run photo training workshops thru eastern Australia. One of the workshop sessions is indoors portraiture via flash As my students have 1001 brands of camera, I need to have equipment that can operate 'across the board' - so I use Yongnuo 460 slave flashguns that can be triggered by P&S cameras as well as wireless I can well understand [anyones] unwillingness to spend $$ unnecessarily, but if you wanted to investigate a bit further ... This is the stuff I use - delivered to your door for under $100 all-up, and for me, 100% reliable http://www.dinodirect.com/Cannon-Nik...uto-YN460.html http://www.dinodirect.com/4-Channel-...-CTR-301P.html Hope this may help a bit Regards, Phil

Try better Chinese sources - they are cheaper!
Not $38, only $15 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Wireless-Fla...item4aa2586dbf Do not buy YN460, it's the old version. YN460-II is better. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-YN-460-I...item4abec6fa86 |

G'day all
@DD - thx for your posting ... but the flash guns I refer to earlier are the "II" version as well @Mike - as an extra thought - the 460 [being a conventional slave flashgun] has 2x optical sync options for P&S cameras ... you test to get the best sync for your camera. 1-sync fires on the 2nd camera flash, the 2nd sync fires on the 3rd camera flash - ie: it takes into account red-eye settings etc etc The wireless triggers I use so that various students' can shoot concurrently without having all flash guns going at the same instant Hope this helps Phil
