Having moved from Nikon DSLR to Nex 6, I have a fancy Nikon SB-800 flash.
Since the Nex 6 has a real flash mount, I am tempted to attach the Nikon flash and start firing away. Will it work? What are the limits of compatibility? What settings are available/should I use? |

If you examine the new Mullti-Interface hot shoe carefully, you will see that there is a shelf at the front of the shoe, beneath which is a series of electrical contacts. Without an adapter with the proper contacts, the shoe could work only as a manual flash, as there is only one contact exposed in the center. Sony makes an adapter that makes it possible to use some of their now previous Sony/Minolta flashes with all functions. You would have to have a matching the trigger voltage with another brand flash before using it safely on the Nex, or else use a slave or a remote wireless trigger.
There may eventually be a third party adapter for Sony Multi-Interface hot shoe to Nikon flash shoe, as there is now for Sony/Minolta hot shoe to Nikon hot shoe. I suppose you could stack a Minolta to Nikon adapter on top of one of Sony's MIF to Minolta adapters, but I wouldn't advise it.

What remote flash triggering devices do you know of? I am aware of the Pocket Wizard only. |
