They are going to compete with the 4/3 system witch will, " feature Sony's all new E-mount interchangeable lens system".
Didn't Sony learn anything from Betamax? |

I don't see these as EVIL cameras. There's no VF other than the rear LCD. Let's call them ILPS (interchangeable lens point and shoot), be cause they really are nothing more than that.

Interesting how opinions can vary...my very first thought when I saw some pictures of it was "gee, the lens looks so huge compared to the body...it makes the camera a lot less pocket'able! We'll have to wait and see I guess.

Although the Sony body is tiny, the overall package is really not that small due to the fact that they are using APS-C sensor and consequently larger lenses. The m4/3 still has a good advantage over the Sony and it is a better option for those interested in shooting with old vintage lenses (like myself). The Sony advantage may be around high ISO noise control since their sensor is bigger. Sony lenses for the most part are not cheap either. So, I guess we'll have to wait and see how it goes.

There is a tunnel vf coming out for it, and next year the evf may come out for it. It does have a flash, but you need to attach to it to the camera. So if you are not careful you may lose the flash. Also if you are using the flash you can not use the tunnel VF or the EVF when it comes out. The lenses show more distortion form the reviews. The samsung NX actually have better lenses.
It is cheaper if you look at them against the ep1/2 and GF1 the first generation m4/3. But the epl-1 is still less expensive, and the same price as the nx3 with the pancake. Also consider the olympus will be coming out with a even simpler m4/3 for the holidays. And will be price even less. Another thing to consider is that there are more lens option for m4/3 then the sony. And the olympus 4/3 lenses are smaller and lighter the the dslr alpha lenses. So if you do use the big brother lens, you still have a smaller package. The sony does have a great sensor. So it will be very good at 3200iso. But the lens base IS means that with the adapter for the alpha lenses, you do not have any IS when using them or the pancake. Which is a departure for the excellent IBIS that is in the dslr Alpha's Sony is seriously targeting the point and shooter looking to move up with the Nex 3 for certain, and some of the bridge camera guys with the Nex 5. And sony will sell allot of them with just their name. So it is good for the m4/3 guys, competition will cause the m4/3 to get less expensive, and so should their lenses. The only EVIL with IBIS is the olympus.
