Yes, the Sony/Zeiss 55/1.8 is a very nice lens, especially on an APS-C body.

But SLRGear.com tests show that, on an APS-C body, the $1,000 Sony/Zeiss 55/1.8 isn't much better than the $300 Sony 50/1.8 which is stabilized to boot.

True, I have the Sony 50 f/1.8 and there is a noticable difference. But that's having them at the same time and looking for the differences.

I notice more CA on the Sony 50 and the colors are not quite as rich as the CZ55.

To put it short, I'm not going to be upgrading anytime soon. I'm quite happy with my 50.

If history repeats itself my friend will once again decide that he's more of a zoom guy and decide to sell his 55 in about 6 months or so. Then I'll buy it.
