Buy the B&W and you won't have to worry about ' color casts'.

You can adjust the level of the built in flash -2 to +2 EV.

Bouncing flash does not always work due to the room you are in and the colors of the walls etc. The best would be a bracket., but you are just starting out, keep it simple. At first keep the camera horizontal so the flash will be from 'above'.

Don't point your almost $1000 camera at anything without having a UV filter on your camera's lens.

Regards, Nicholas

This is all great info. I looked for one in the city I went to today and none of the stores had one in stock. I really wanted to hold one in my hand and get the feel of it. If I can't find one locally where would you suggest that I order on line? Other than a computer I have never purchased something that expensive on line. Thanks so much to everyone for all the help.

I just checked SonyStyle for you and they are out of stock!

What does that mean, if anything?

I have noticed that it is listed on Amazon and at some of the stores on Steve's review page of the camera. Have you dealt with any of these? Are you suspecting that they could be coming out with an update? Thanks for the input.

Amazon is actually from J&R (not a bad thing.)

I don't know if an update is to be announced. The normal Sony time frame

would be next August.

If they would put a 2.8 lens and real buffer I'd pay twice the price for two of them.

Meanwhile I am content with my R-1.

If you find any info please post here, I will too.

Other on line stores seem to have them. May call stores in another area to see if they have one in stock. I really feel the need to hold one in my hand before I buy it. Thanks for all the help. This seems to really be the camera I want so I intend to keep up the search for one.
