Hello All

I watched the funeral of President Ford last night. It was very touching.

VP's Cherney's statement was the most eloquent, heartful, and moving thatI have ever heard.

When the coffin was placed near the House Chamber and when Mrs. Ford so proudlyleaned on her loving husband's coffin, I was completly distracted by the very loud and noisyDSLR's that the out of sight press were using to photograph the event. At first I thought the sound was that of soilder's marching then realized it was a bunch of mirror slapping.

May President Ford rest in peace, and May our World see peace in 2007.

First....HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR !!!!!

If the R-1 had a large buffer and fast Raw write times, many of those pros covering the Ford funeral could have used the R-1 without creating the Horrible Shutter Noise distraction their cameras created during thesolemn moments I mentioned above.

I hope this answers your question, and I hope Sony reads this thread.

Happy New Year to you Nicholas!

I'd like to double check with you concerning Raw times ....

I am using a Sandisk Memory stick Pro Extreme 3 2gig, and I get one Raw pic plus 10mp fine jpg every 4 seconds.

Best wishes to you and your family

Hi Glyn,

Thank you. A Happy & Healthy New Year to you!!!

You are getting good times for an R-1 IMHO.

Your 4 seconds would be too long for Press Photogs. It the R-1 could buffer 3 frames a second Raw for a few seconds, that woud be great, IMHO.

A Press Photog can't let 4 seconds go by without the ability to shoot during breaking news events.

It would make a great camera even greater.

Nicholas

Could have, but wouldn't. It would take MUCH more than that to get pros to change their equipment to something like an R1.

And what of those that have the camera set to make fake shutter noises????

The pro's arent going to be leaving DSLR's very soon. The SLR's are still way less noisey than the Sony R1 and way faster. 4 seconds per raw is awful slow compared to an SLR. My rebel xt would take 3 Raw's per second for a while before it would slow down.

Oh yeah, Fake Shutter sounds are awful and stupid. Thats just my opinion on that.

Hello All,

Interesting thread.

IMHO it won't take long for the press to be told :

"No Flash, No Camera noise is permitted". , for certain events.

They will have no choice once the technology arrives to the marketplace.

The technology for 'mirrorless' DSLRs is very near to commercialization and I started this thread suggestingthat the Ford Funeral provided examples of moments that require quiet from the press. An upgrade to the R-1 could meet these concerns.

Hope springs eternal...
For how long are you ready to wait?

'Mirrorless' SLRs will lose their ability to phase focus as a result fast AF

Hi S-grins,

I'd say this August...2007, probably Sony first, then others.
