Can I attach any type of external strobe to the dsc h1, besides the Sony slave flash?

Mechanically you can attach external flash to H1,2,5 via threaded tripod mount socket at the bottom of a camera. The problem is that you can't trigger your strobe – H1,2,5 do not have plug-it-in.
So, slave flash (or slave strobe if you wish) is the only option you have.

I've used it with other model Sony cameras, but never with the H5. The flash in the H5 is pretty powerful so I don't think you'll see too much of a difference adding that flash.
