Hello All,

Here are the results of my H9 ISO test.

I believe my test is the only accurate method to observe noise in a seriesimages and to make a determination about a sensor's low light ability (IMHO).

The test has 7 images ofthe same subject with constant, normalroom incandescent lighting, shot at night ( no daylight to affect readings ). The H9 was on a tripod, Steady Shot was off, WB was set to incandescent. Exposure was manual.

My subject was my trusty and most important photographic tool, my Minolta IV Light Meter. The exposure used for each of the seven images can be read on the face of the light meter. I took a reading at each ISO setting from 3200 down to 80.

I kept the aperture at f4.0 on all shots and varied the shutter speed as indicated by the light meter for each ISO setting.

Here is the test. I hope I will not create a bandwidth problem for my Smugmug account.

I will not state my opinion on the results until you have had a chance to view the test images and make your own observations and determinations:

Very nice comparison! For me, even 3200 would be usable!
It seems that high ISO shots have problems with textures, and your test subject is composed only of flat, smooth, shiny, unicolor faces.... (well, other than the cord...)
Could you do a similar test with something that has fine texture (hair?)

thanks a lot for your articles!

Many thanks for your comment.

Yes I will redo the test with textured surfaces as you wisely suggest.

Hopefully over the weekend.

Thanks again for helping improve my H9 review.

Nicholas
