Is it just me or does anybody else think that digital cameras are becoming like computers? That in a matter of months the camera you bought is already off the market so to say and has been replaced by a better model.

This is what happened to me a few times. I was waiting for the H2s and H5s to drop in price and now that the H7 and H9s are out they are not even on the shelves of the stores I go to anymore, Walmart cheapest place that sells cameras around me told me they are not selling H2 or H5 cameras anymore cause they are out dated. I was lucky to get a H5 used from one of my friends that only took 37 photos with it before he was upgrading to another camera that just came out.

Actually this might be an issue.. computers cell phones.. all the other electronic stuff..

There comes an attitude.. I love the quality and not the quantity.. In some cases a conservative approach can be of a great help.. For example.. I still love my "old" sony dsc-v1.. I have became a pro user of it..

Now I am curious about H9.. I think it is an only alternative for me.. to substitute the V1 (It has many pros, but many cons as well). I was considering a dSLR, but with my lifestyle and priorities in different needs.. I think I can easily to postpone getting it.. because technologies are improving rapidly and changing often.. I want the best thing for the best price..

I feel the same way about my F828 thats why I had a hard time buying a new camera but I got a steal of a deal on the H5 I couldn't pass up.

I have to smile to myself, reading your post. At least four times inthe last two years, I have bought a new camera the day it hit the market. Then within two weeks later, I went and bought another new one that had more megapixels or bigger screen or longer zoom. The evolution of electronics is at a break neck speed, and we are always trying to keep up with it (till we run out of money). I just joined the forum yesterday and reallylike it. I have the Sony DSC-H9, and am very pleased with it so far. I also have an Olympus SP-550UZ, a nice camera but not in the same league as the Sony(poor stabilization, hard to focus at low light and long focul length, lots of noise at higher ISO settings(400 and up)).

Like computers, cameras will always have a newer/better model in the wings. If you want to wait for the newest/best then you will be waiting forever.

Todays cameras are better than most people need. And that is the key. What do you want to do with your camera and with your photos? Figure that out, then figure out what you need to accomplish it and then match those specs to a camera currently available. Then go buy it and go take photos. Forget about trying to 'keep up'. It's a waste of time (and money).

Upgrademania is a fools errand.

I do absolutely agree with amazingthailand..

Make your attitude and then choose..

Get into a quality with a tool you know so well that you can do 'everything you want' with it.

Good luck in choosing your tool, tjsnaps! (I chose mine before 3 years exactly here - reading reviews of Steve)..
