Possibly a form of primitive thermal management to
keep noise down. I've noticed that my current digi
gets warm doing nothing in "taking" mode when on
the AC adaptor, but esp. with the LCD on.

Not really. The imaging system is probably powered
down, since "obviously", you're just using the cam as
a flash drive.

Default Image quality!

After racking my brain (about the F828) for the past couple of weeks, I read this article on the importance of sensor size:
http://www.photo.net/equipment/digital/sensorsize/

I have finally decided that with an APS sized sensor, the F828 is off my list...no matter how many pixels. Since Sony does make the sensor for the D100, I expect to see that larger sized sensor (with the 4-colors) in a Nikon fairly soon and that will change the landscape once again!

I don't know about that... if I "keep" the camera on for long periods of time (by using it), it doesn't seem to warm up too much. At any rate, 20 seconds is insane - even 5 minutes would be better.

Can anyone with a 717 or Fuji S602 comment on this behavior?

And speaking of rumors.

On other forums, people who have been talking
to Sony reps and distributors are reporting that
the original target of October, which officially
slipped to Nov, is now at least Dec, and ...

... someone with a pre-order at ecost.com is
being quoted a ship date of 2004-01-15.

Anyone with a Christmas stocking requirement
needs to be considering their alternatives.

In my case, the Canon EOS-300D is looking more
attractive every day, even though I don't have a
tight timetable. I'd just like to act before my
current digi is completely worthless on eBay

I don't want to arise any doubts, but it was announced that sony f828 will appear in October. Now dealers announced January 2004. I really wonder if there were not any mistake found and that is the consequence of delay.
