Just bought my wife an ASUS VX1 15.4" laptop, this is the first time I've used an LCD, looking through 'Post your favorite Sony pictures' here I was shocked to see how my own images appeared on the LCD screen.....color and brightnessnot being anything like the real scene I shot, viewing normally with my Hitachi cm721f CRTthe images are fine.

So yesterday I spent an hour at an internet cafe that uses LCD moitorsand the same thingno reality to the way I processed and uploaded my images.

In the abovethread I have posted some 'fixes' to a few members shots that looked under exposed, and low and behold on the wifes laptop these shots were fine with their original shots, (were these processed on an LCD???)so as CRTs are hard to find new now I have started to research wether I should change my CRTmonitor for an LCD.

Would be interested to know what you folksthat have posted images on the Sony forum what you are using to browse and post processyour images with,LCD or CRT.

Also apologise to any of my friends photo's that may have not needed improvements, any input would be appreciated before I ring the men in white coats to come andtake me away.

I use both, at work I have a Dell 24" LCD which the photos look great on, but my calibratedCRT at home not so good LOL. I have posted at home with my CRT thinking they look good and get to work and think Yikes!!! what happened. I think LCD is nicer.

Thanks for the reply Cyber, after researching for many hours I found that there are 3 types ofLCD technology, TN, VA and IPS, after reading some threads on the subject at dpreview it appears theonly LCD for photography is the IPS which renders the best color management, these moniters cost at least 2-3 times more than the common TN version.

Good short article explaining the difference,

http://www.lcdresource.com/lcdtech/

"Photo editors will want to stick with the tried-and-true IPS panels. If the price is simply too high for you, VA panels being 8-bit and high-contrast aren't a bad alternative. However, you won't get the natural colors of a quality IPS screen"
