Default sony hx5 worth waiting for?

hi everyone ,again i am new here and camera shopping .i really like the performance i am seeing out the hx1 and i am seriously considering this camera .
tell me why i should wait and get a hx5.
what new improvements are there?nice looking little camera but your losing alot of zoom.
i have used big mavicas with big g lenses for years and i am kinda used to that .
the hx5 has a much smaller lens as compared to the hx1 .
i have seen the hd video that the hx5 produced and it is very nice .
i honestly never use zoom as most my picture taking is for ebay/family type stuff, but the zoom on the hx1 is really cool.

i guess i am looking for someone to lay out the pro`s vrs cons and why to wait for this new camera .
it will be less money than the hx1 but i guess theres good reason for that?
less zoom?

ps-somewhere i seen that the sony records video slower than most all compareable cameras.something like 12.6fps whereas other cameras were recording at 30fps and above .
is this a issue?and does the new hx5 address this?

John-

I will attempt to clear up the info for you.

The HX-1 and HX-5 cameras are aimed at different market segments. The HX-1 offers 20X optical zoom with a faster G category lens than the HX-5. When introduced in the spring of 2009, the HX-1 was one of the first CMOS imager cameras that Sony introduced. It HD video was state of the art when the HX-1 was introduced. But video improvements have been poping up like dandelions in a well water lawn throughout 2009 and into 2010.

If video is your highest priority, you should take a look at the new TX-7 which came to market and is now available just this past week. Sony will be switching all of their cameras over to AVCHD Lite. The new TX-7 has AVCHD Lite video as will the HX-5 have as well. The TX-7 also has that HD video with 60 fps.

The Sony HX-5 is positioned to compete head on with shirt pocket size cameras such as the Canon S-90 by offering a much better feature set in the same size physical format.

Have a great day.

The feature set looks great, as does the lens.

I am just waiting to see how the image quality turns out. the exemor backlit sensor is exciting if they do it right.

hi, could someone please just let me know if the HX5 will allow me to zoom in and out when using the video function? My old FujiFinepix F40 took great video but wasn't able to zoom in and out whilst recording. Thanks

the galaxywoman-

Welcome to the Forum. We're delighted that you dropped by.

There have been no professional reviews of the HX-5 yet, but from reading the specs, it would seem that zooming while filming HD video is possible.

Have a great day.
