Default h55 or hx5

any one have a preference? They seem pretty darn close?

They are essentially the very same camera. The difference lies in the imager and the mp count. The H-55 uses a conventional CCD type imager, while the HX5 uses a newer CMOS based imager. The H-55 has 14 mp. The HX-5 has 10mp.

User reports on the H-55 have been very mixed, some really like the camera and other folks have a strong dislike for it. There have been no professional reviews posted as yet for the H-55 camera.

As the H-55 uses a conventional CCD type imager, is it correct to theorize that CCD type imager will most probably be subjected to light streaks running down the video footage when video shooting under bright lights;

With both cameras you can make good photos and videos - I (using TX7) would prefer HX5 - but Iiiiiii must buy none of both.

2 cameras with completely differnent sensors are going to put out very different images. I tried the H55, along with just about every compact zoom camera, and decided on the Hx5, which delivers MUCH better pictures. Of ciourse, I'm a little late posting a reply so this may not matter anymore.
