Hehe, my TX9 is on the way :-)
Paired with my TX7 I soon will have excellent 1920x1080 3D movies.
Now I wait for ZOOM H1 recorder to get perfect sound.

There are not "large" differences
10mpixel/12mpixel
new 3D functions (multiview)

For 3D I need the EXMOR top movie quality and 4x zoom - there are a lot of pocket camcorders for half price, but most no zoom or only 5mpixel for photos. Even (soon) from Sony (but with 12 mpixel and EXMOR).

Till now I used 2x Canon IXUS 100 (€ 135 each) for 1280x720 - very good synchronisable with CHKD software. Also for 12 mpixel 3D pictures.

MAGIX Video Deluxe 17 Premium now supports 3D cutting, but most I use free StereoPhotoMaker and StereoMovieMaker.

Today arrived my TX9 ... now 1920x1080 3D movies start :-) Till now I used two Canon IXUS for 1280x720 3D movies.

A nice fun is - new - multi angle function. Camera takes some pictures and shows them in "3D". Works fine.

Look three demos (with TX7):

A new function is to unsharpen background - with pocket cameras with small sensors near impossible. TX9 makes two pictures and generates ONE with unsharpened background.

In some (seldom) cases this can fail. Camera must select "what's background"

Now I have paired TX7 and TX9 for 3D action. Pictures you must adjust, because (16:9) has 7 Mpixel (TX7) and 9 Mpixel (TX9). Eyeparallaxe is camera size.
With video (1920x1080) there is not such a problem, but you must synchronisize left/right video.

addendum: you can use left/right pictures from TX7/TX9 despite of 7mpix/9mpix. StereoPhotoMaker makes correct 3D photos.

Seeing that you have both TX7 and TX9, which one would you recommend? I've been looking at both of these models and can't decide. 3D isn't important to me since I don't have a 3D tv. But I noticed that TX9 has the background defocus and soft skin mode (which seem nifty). Or do you think Sony will come out with another upgrade before end of the year?

Thanks!

Both cameras are technical highlights - I am using TX7 daily. The differences are not phaenomenal ... 10/12 mpixels, funny 3D functions. Background defocusing is also nice. Comparing size & functions with other cameras, you can say to the others: go home :-)

Especially video functions (AVCHD/MP4) - excellent quality! - till 1920x1080 are great. Thickness makes both really pocketable.
