Default Cybershot P52 auto lens cover

Switched on my P52 yesterday am to check for a big family event and the pop-away lens cover only opened about a third of the way followed by a clacking noise. Camera screen said to power off then on again. Sadly this just did the same and it sounds like the motor/gear or whatever works it is slipping.

I've been really pleased with the camera so far for the 10 months since I bought it new (yes thankfully still under warranty) but I'm worried this might be a common fault and give me further problems as the camera gets older and out of warranty.

Anyone else had this or heard of it on the P52 or similar model. I'm wondering about extending the warranty while I have the chance.

Thanks,

David

Not exactly the same but something similar...

First started with a LCD problem with intermittent power-offs and now the thing cannot work at all - plus the lens cover is stuck.

I think I caused it by cleaning the LCD and some of the fluid got though the edges into the main body.
