Default LCD Screen on DSC-S50 broke! Please help....

I have owned a DSC-S50 cybershot camera for nearly two years now and have had no problems.

Until now.

The LCD will not display anything at all. It starts with a white screen and that's all. I took the case off of the flip-up part of the camera and examined the connections and such. Everything seemed to be in order, except for one of the clips holding in the ribbon cables. I tried to tighten this connection and broke off the rest of the connector!!

Can I just order a replacement LCD or circuit board or what? This is a great camera and I don't want to give it up just yet.

Thanks,
bish

Do you know an easy way to go about replacing the screen? I would rather stretch this camera out another year or two.

Is there a chance to visit SONY technical support and ask these guys to fix the LCD?

Should be the way out to sort the issue.

well, then it's always your choice weather to purchase a new camera or a new LCD. Althow there is a way to use the camera through the view finder only. But it is defenitely NOT the issue trying to repair it yourself.

I don't know if I can get them on the phone to ask...I would probably just have to go through the usual repair channels.

there isn't an optical viewfinder on the DSC-S50.

Bish - this may help you decide ;-)

I have a f505v with a well-worn LCD screen
so I thought I'd find out how much they
were. If you know the part # you can order
parts here:

http://servicesales.sel.sony.com/

I happen to have the service manual for mine
so I put in the part # - 180354923 - it's
nearly $200!

Sorry,

Harry
