Hi

I am torn on what camera to buy. I am basically sold on the Sony W1 over the comparable small cameras because of the large screen and the ability to use regular batteries. The only thing I don't like is that the media is the most expensive. It seems to be the most durable though.



My question is why does Sony make 2 cameras that are both 5.1mp, both do the same thing, and bothcost the same. THe only difference I see is that one has a 1" larger LCD and is a nicer shape in my opinion? Is one older?

Before you go to far with it



I do see a few differences...



The P100 seems to be a more professional camera

Lion batteries instead of NiMh

2x more digital zoom

Double the video FPS rate?



I hate this...this is why I haven't bought camera yet

THen whats with the V1... more expensive and less features! arghhh

Hi, the V1 is an older camera but has a lot more manual features. Laser night mode , Aperture & Shutter Priority etc. This is why it is more expensive. This in my view is more of a professional camera than the P100 or W1.

Both the W1 & P100 use Sony's new image chip for fast startup etc and they both have better battery time compared to the V1. I like the batteries in the W1 as they are a lot cheaper than proprietary batteries. I was not aware of any more digital zoom or FPS in movie mode on the P100compared to theW1..

The P100 is of course the different shape but I think that it has a sport mode which the W1 doesn't have. Then again the W1 has the bigger LCD.Apart from thisI think that the P100 & W1 are pretty much the same camera.

The DSC-V1 is now cheaper than the W1 and a better value in my opinion.

It doesn't. The P100 and W1 have exactly the same digital zoom and movie mode.

Correct. They use the same lens and have exactly the same features apart from the above mentioned.
