Anyone with the DSC-M1, is it possible to record video while "collapsed," so the screen arm is in the verticle rather than horizontal position?

Thanks...

Short answer.......No. All that you can do is view your pics with it's closed. The lens cover automatically closes when you rotate the cover of the camer.

Long answer is yes - you can record but only with the lcd folded away and hidden from view. Its a bit of a cheating way, but u need to switch it on in its folded state (so lcd is not visible), slightly open the cover, then u can hit the record button. Then you can twist it closed and it continues to record. Voila!

Don't know why sony couldn't make it record with the lcd onpen in folded state though.

Ive seen alot of posts here and other sites wondering why sony didnt include an option on this awesome cam to record or take pictures while the lcd is collapsed. I myself thought this was wierd and not sure why they did not implement it, but i believe ive figured out why -

If you wanted to have the LCD collapsed to take pictures or video, it would be quite pointless because you would be looking at the image sideways or vertical (up and down), which is almost useless. If you turned the camera horizontal with the LCD collapsed to correct this- and attempted to record, then the video itself would be vertical, and so on.. just look at the lcd when its connected to ur comp in the cradle, it says USB Mode Normal, but you have to turn ur head to read it.

..thats what im thinking..
