After thinking about Canon SD300 and DSC-W1 for a WHILE, I just bought a DSC-W1 for its lens expandability feature and higher resolution. Bought it from BestBuy for $299+ 4yrs service plan. Did I make a right decision guys? I'm afraid to open the box now thinking I'll change my mind and end up paying the restocking fee.

In my own opinion, I think the W1 is a very good camera. It suffers from a little more red eye than some of the other cameras I've used, but all in all for its size and price it can't be beat. Thw W1 has always given me MUCH better photo quality than the T1. A brand new camera in a sealed box right in front of me would kill me.:lol:OPEN IT AND USE IT!

Haha! Thank you for your feedback. I actually opened it right after my first post. Took few shots of my room, few macro shots and I am very very very pleased with the shots. I will take it with me to work tomorrow and take a few outdoor pics to see how they come out. So far, loving it.

Hi,

I am debating between p150 (maybe p200 too if priced well) and W1.... is the p200 worth paying 100$ more?

any experiences with iether of them would be helpful

thanks,

In my opinion, you should go with W1. Pricematch Staples and buy it from BestBuy or just buy it from Staples for $299.90. That's a steal right now. It's a great camera from my two day experience. Night shots were awesome.

I tested out the P100/150 and W1 today...drum roll please

As you may have heard, Sony is debuting the P200 in a few days. I have been eagerly anticipating this in the hopes that the P150 would be discounted (which it has!). Not wanting to wait another day, I called my local Wolf Camera and asked a sales associate to "prep" the P100, P150, and W1 so that I could do test shots when I got there. I asked him to take "identical" shots of my 9-month old baby and he kindly developed the pictures for me as well. I was really rooting for the P100 or P150 because they're so sleek! The associate (on my request) didn't tell me which ones were which. One picture was clearly the Best-the edges were SHARP and the colors were VIVID.....W1. You could even see my individual hair strands! (I'm Korean and have thick black hair). The "worst" looking one was from the P150 ! It was not very well lit inside the store and interestly, I found in Steve's review of the P100 -"When shooting indoors you will have to work within the limited flash range (11.5 feet) and 38mm wide angle focal length". The pictures with the W1 were simply better lit. Of course, I wish the W1 was as thin as the P100/150 but then again, maybe that's why the pictures came out better. I truly believe it is the BEST COMPACT CAMERA, Sony or otherwise ( I have owned 9 digital cameras). Plus, it's still very pocketable. I ordered a black one. At least, the color is sleek if not the camera. But it will be GREAT and isn't that what really matters. Not how "cool" it looks (or make you look) but how "great" the photos look.

Got my DSC-W1 early december for the holiday vacation and haven't regretted it. I think the better performance arises from the 1/1.8 CCD. The 2.5"LCD and use of penlights is a big plus too.

I was just hoping Sony would improveitby making it significantly slimmeron the coming DSC-W5 and W7, but since they didn't change much, I think your new W1 is still a worthwhile investment.

Virgil-I have a couple of questions for you - in layman's terms, what does 1/1.8 CCD mean? Also, did you buy a lcd protector for your camera? I used one on my Canon SD200 and I "think" I will try to find one for the W1. I like the ones from Japan that simply "cling" to the screen without adhesives.

Is the redeye really that bad?

I was comparing this with the Canon A95, A85 as well, as those were recommended by photographers I know. Those had redeye problems too from the source I don't know at the moment.

I finally decided to get the W1, it should come in a few days, the worryness comes back, though.

The flash exposure, from the shots I've seen, was a lot better (without those, to me ugly shadows next to the subject) and evenly.

Colours richer, contrast better, saturation better, ISO better, little barrel distortion, about as fast as the P93, but more redeye, I see :?
