Default New F707 - ? accessories

I recently purchased the F707 - great camera!
I would appreciate any guidance regarding the value of the following accesories:
1. We travel a lot - which is better, a backup battery or a car battery charger - especially when travelling outside of the USA?
2. How useful is a lens hood and a polarizing filter kit?
3. Does the wide angle lens (VCL-MHG07) distort, and if so, does another company make a better lens for the Sony?
4. I would like to increase my zoom power to about 300 - 350 mm, any suggestions?
Thanks for the guidance.

I would suggest a spare battery AND the car charger. Anywhere you travel the rental car will be 12v DC. Outlet adapters and settings on the multi-country chargers are too much of a hassle IMHO.

Thanks for the advice. I intend to follow it and buy both as you suggested.
Any experience or advice re the telephoto and/or wide angle lenses?
All the best.

I'm not a proponent of supplementary lenses on any camera. Alignment, vignetting and internal reflections all tend to spoil any gains from adding a lens to the front of your camera, IMO. I know this doesn't answer your question, but I don't feel they are a worthwhile investment.

Default On telephoto adapters...

You can increase your focal length to 323mm with excellent results with the Olympus B-300 1.7x telephoto adapter.

This lens is a little difficult to find, but is periodically available on the Eagle Eye site at http://www.eagleeyeuk.com

Another useful tele adapter is the Olympus TCON-14B 1.45x which would give you 275.5mm - this one is widely available.

Both work very well indeed with the F707. It's also possible to use the TCON-300 3x, but it's an expensive proposition and not nearly as good a solution as the B-300 or TCON-14B

Thanks for the advice.

It seems as though the Olympus B-300 1.7 x will best serve my purpose of photographing wildlife.

All the best.

For a Wide angle lens I used the VCL-HG0758. The lens you mentioned is not very good and sucks with zoom. I know the one im showing you is more expensive but it works GREAT and it goes to show you can use plenty of lenses other than those listed. Even other brands as shown here, look around.

Just to mention another very helpful accessory. THe [email protected] Mindstor or Delkin eFilm PicturePAD are extremely helpful since Sony is limited to 128 sticks.

Default You use this on an F707?

Daytona,
You use that on an F707? It's made for a camcorder, right?

Arb, I haven't read all the responses. so I might be repeating what someone else said. I used a voltage converter when I was in England to recharge my camcorder batteries. I thought I had all the right gizmos: the outlet adaptor for differently shaped wall outlets, ets. I am pretty sure I burnt the battery out and could not take any pics for the rest of a trip. I wish I thought of a possibility to use the car battery charger.
