Has anyone seen the new DSC-H1 at Sony.com? Looks like Panasonic has some competition for the big zoom market.

well maybe not, the lens on the panasonic is far superior, it may have a nice big LCD screen but its not got much resolution to it i'd take the FZ-5 any day.

I have my feet in both camps. I have a W1 and an FZ20. Both fine cameras, but it seemed interesting that Sony and Canon are seeing the popularity of the Panasonics' and going in that direction.

Yes the canon S2 looks set to been an interesting thought, probably the best camera to give the FZ5/20 a run for their money, tho the FZ5 certainly would seem its most direct competition, i guess we'll just hav to wait and see for the S2. But certainly the lens on the Sony H1 isn't as good as the Fz5 and probably not the S2 when its released, but the H1 does hav alot of features the others don't have, like that huge LCD screen on the back, perfect for those with poor eyesight or who just like to see their pictures bigger when they've been taken, however isnt the resolution about 115K? the Fz5 has a res of 130K on its much smaller screen. Always has to be a compromise but i don't intend on selling my newly purchased Fz5 :blah:

Dont forget that on the FZ5, FZ20 or the new Sony H1 the LCD is not too much useable, since the camera is heavy and it isn better to hold it near the eye like a traditional EV camera,so whether it is a 2.5" or 1." LCD, does it matter ? you will use it for preview only. NOW, do you buy a camera to take picture and therefore a Leica Lens is definitely better on the FZ Panny series.... My 2cents

Sal, is that 0.015 Euro's?
Actually,
I like the way Sony does things, cameras at least, so I guess I was kind of questioning in my own mind whether to get rid of the Panasonic and have both the W1 and the H1 from the same mfg. But, as a lot of people have pointed out, the Panasonic does have the better lens and the size of the LCD is moot.

It seems that the new Samsung with its 15X (yes, 15X) Schneider lens and a plethora of neat features will give Panasonic and other competitors a tough run for the money.

15x! At what point do you find that you just don't need to get closer?
I wonder what the wide angle is?
