The DSC-S90 looks like a pretty nice entry level camera according to this review: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/sonydscs90/

My Mother-In-Law getting her S90 for Mom's Day.
We got her the S90 'cuz it was an easy camera for her to learn on. Unfortunately, like a lot of older folks (she's 73) they're a little intimidated by it all. She thought that when you take the card out you lost the pics. A carry over from film perhaps. I try to inform them, because now my father-in law has read the manual, without getting too technical, like "file sizes", etc. "Just leave it on auto and don't worry..."
It is a nice camera that they can grow with.
