What a big, heavy, beautiful piece of equipment. Wow! This is going to be fun.

I stuck the battery in, set the time and date, and took a test photo. I swear, when I first looked at the test shot I said: "Hmmm. SONY must've put one on here so we could see how good the camera is." The I realized it was the shot I took. Wow!

One question ... it looks like the 7m setting is the 3:2 format. Is the 10m setting workable in 3:2 as well?

Thanks! I'll post some stuff as soon as I get a little more used to the camera.

Enjoy your R-1 and give us some reports and photos. It seems to be a great camera.

The R1 uses an APS sensor (21.5mm x 14.4mm physically), that makes it 3:2 format.

You had better check with resellerratings.com before buying, lest you get into trouble.

I suggest sticking with reputable sellers, such as B&H.

Also check the ratings history. B&H is consistantly high.

I bought my R1 from National Camera Exchange, out of Golden Valley, MN. The cost was the full retail, BUT they provided free shipping AND a free 1G Sony Memory Stick Pro.
