What would cause a Sony DSCH1 to turn itself on and off while sitting idle ? It sometimes refuses to turn on until I try several times ,but seems to work fine otherwise. Could this be an OFF/ON switch problem or something deeper?

First thing to check is the contacts in the battery compartment. I had similar problem withmy handheld GPS receiver. Turned out the spring thatpushes the AA batteries tight to the internalterminal was deformed. Stretching the spring a bit - so was about 1/4" longer at rest - solved the problem. ...FB

Thanks for your input Bob,I checked the battery compartment and there seems to be plenty of spring tension on the battery contacts.there are no exposed springs to stretch though.Of course, it hasn't turned itself on since I posted to this message board.
