I think I must be getting too old for this lark..... we took agroup of 14 of our 14-18 year olds from church away for the weekend and with only 6-7 hours sleep all weekend I'm totally worn out today. Anyway we played a lot of outdoor games (as well as teaching sessions and indoor games) so I grabbed a few shots with the Canon 30D and Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 and 70-200mm f2.8 to capture some of what we got up to.
Mark 1 ![]() 2 ![]() 3 ![]() 3 Bee LOL This is a 100% crop of the above as when reviewing these I noticed a littlke friend had flown in to enjoy the fun! ![]() 4 ![]() 5 ![]() 6 ![]() 7 ![]() 8 No ball!! ![]() |

Great shots. It looks like everyone had lots of fun.
What was happening in shots 1-4? The grass looks a little high for football. In 6, BASEBALL!?!?! In Plymouth? You must get your sporting equipment mail order. In 7, ok, not baseball. TWO HANDS! HOLD THE BAT WITH TWO HANDS! In 8, she is pushing the bat, not swinging it. And the catcher doesn't have a glove. This must have been a REAL friendly game of baseball. Maybe next time you could use a softball. It's bigger and easier to hit. |

Thanks.... In 1-5 they are playing a couple of different games and could not tell you which is which as the way to get people out is to 'hit' them so could have been bulldog or capture the flag but essentially you need to get to your player.
In the others the person who bought the kit didn't get what was planned it should have been a rounders bat rather than a baseball one and personally I would have gone for a tennis ball. Having said that don't be fooled by the way the ball looks in fact it is very soft so similar amount of give as a tennis ball but slightly lighter. As for how they were holding it..... hmmm no idea, personally as the bat was pretty light I used it one handed to get much more distance and we were officially going to be playing rounders. It was all a great deal of fun only ended by one of the guys deciding the best way to stop me getting another rounder would be to rugby tackle me to the ground. All well and good an he didn't manage to stop me (I'm 6'6" tall and 18.5 stone/260 lb) so two more joined in to eventually take me down, only problem being the first guy was still underneath and managed to cut his head on my belt buckle...... when will they learn. Nothing major fortunately and I still had enough time to get my rounder before the ball came back as it was in the next field LOL. |

You are right, this bat is pretty light and a rounders on is probably about the same but half the length.

Thanks John, we had so much fun (just not enough sleep) and I was really impressed to get the one with the bee as the depth of field is pretty narrow.

Nice series Mark. These shots will provide great memories to the people in them. Your church is lucky to have someone who can capture those memories so well. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks John, I wasn't sure if I should post or not as they were not likely to hold too much interest to others but I did like some of the facial expressions in them. The guys at my church do laugh at me when I arrive with my Tamrac Expedition 8 full of kit as well as the Sigma 120-300 in its case but hey it does add a different dimension to the shots that can be captured.
