But it's also important to understand the distances involved here are much shorter than what you will face at a MLB ballpark. And, let me also add - different ballparks have different restrictions on what lenses they will let in. For example - when I go to a Cleveland Indians game they're very liberal on the lenses they let in. If I have good enough seats I'll use a 100-400L. If my seats aren't good enough I leave the camera at home. But other ballparks will not allow a lens of that size (or a 70-200 2.8 for that matter) in.

oh i know, im planning on staying with college for a long while, and in the process fo convincing my mom to chip in for a sigma 300 2.8...
really want to try and get in next years sports shooter acadmey if they do it on the east coast.... |

sorry my comment was directed at the other poster who is looking for a lens for MLB games. So I wanted to caution him about attempting to use the same gear you are using.
