Shell,
Nice series. Last one is definitely my favorite. Was the one game at night? Colors are fairly muted which could be fixed a bit in post processing. But these are some nice captures!! |

Thanks John!
Yes the one game was at night, I see that you use the sigma 120-300 F-28, how does this compare in sharpness to Canon's 70-200 F-28?? Are you using Canon's 1.4X TC. or Sigma? How does auto focus work with these two lenses? Thanks for your input! Shell ![]() |

Shell,
I don't own the Canon 70-200 2.8 I own the Sigma. The Sigma seems very sharp to me. The extra reach makes a huge difference. Any time you can reduce the amount of cropping you do (assuming you're using a good lens) you'll get sharp photos. So, in coverfing baseball - probably no comparision the Sigma will win hands down from 200-300 (i.e sigma at 300 and Canon cropped down). From 100-200mm I couldn't say. I use the Sigma TC and it works great with this lens This gallery is about 50/50 - first half without TC, second half with: http://www.jagsportsphotos.com/gallery/1503035 Autofocus with or without TC is great. |

JohnG,
You really got it happening with that high end Canon DSLR. Also the lens is working well. Is it a Canon F2.8 lens? Keep up the excellent work! -- Terry |

Thanks Terry! Haven't seen you around in a while.
It's the Sigma 120-300 2.8. I picked it up this spring and it's a fantastic lens - can't wait for football. There was no way I could afford the Canon 300 2.8 - that's $4000 PLUS I would need an extra body which I also can't afford. In all reality, I'm hoping against hope Canon will come out with something between the 30D and 1D Mk II N - a 1.6x crop camera with the 45 point autofocus of the Mk II N - even without everything else - if we could get the autofocus system of that camera I would be a very happy sports shooter :G |

JohnG,
I hear ya', that would be my next upgrade! Yah, that lens is really smokin. I should take a good look at it, but it's hard to reconcilethe $'s given I do my sports gigs pro bono. Keep up the excellent work! -- Terry |
