This morning I was out shooting a fun run which takes place just outside Plymouth around a local reservoir. The course is approx 3.8 miles and the first guy was in in about 21 mins. I ran last year (far too slowly) but decided that taking photos would be much easier and also I will be selling them to raise money for charity.

Every gets a prize as to be able to run you give awrapped presentto the pot and at the end when you finish you get to take one from the sack.

This is the first time I have shot running and thought it would be good practise for any events I might cover in the future.

Shot with Canon 30D, Sigma 17-70mm DC and Sigma 70-200mm f2.8, ISO 800.

Any advice and suggestions would be appreciated.

Mark

Awesome shots, Mark,

I'm not sure if you cropped these, but the tight crop works for the web.

If I was printing these 8x10 inches, I'd put an extra 10 percent border around a few of them.

The focus and exposure is awesome!

Thanks Terry, yep a slight crop on each of these to 'webify' them.

Nice stuff mark. I like the shot coming across the bridge and the shot of 'one of the top ladies' and the man right after her - love the expressions!!

Thanks John, one of the best things about shooting sports would have to be the expressions!!!!

I took approx 700 shots as I wanted to get most of the people running and only had one pass as a group and then a pass at the finish line. I think I have manged to get about 85% of them which I'm quite happy with.

Fantastic Mark
Well done. Sports is a whole new experience havnt actually tried it yet. Camera end that is! :-) It looks cold there your coming into winter there? The expressions are awesome. Candid street photography appeals to me for that reason alone the expressions and gestures you can capture. I think you earnt a few Bayleys well done.

Thanks Jewel.

Expressions make me laugh. A while ago I started a post all about sports expressions, have a look at http://www.stevesforums.com/forums/v...mp;forum_id=82

Yep it is getting colder day by day so I was wrapped up warm. Might be shooting some kitesurfing tomorrow whichwill be chilly!!

I'm always concerned about candid as I never know how people might react if they notice (not sure I should be as I'm 198cm/6'6" tall so most people would not say anything - downside being I stick out like a saw thumb).

Not seen many shots from you recently but looking forward to seeing what you have up your sleeve.

Very well done indeed Mark! This summer I too had a chance to shoot a Terry Fox marathon where our swim club was there to support it and enter the 5km run. Several thousand people showed up and it was quite the crowd.

You caught some great expressions.
