Well after a year of having my first DSLR I'ts been quite the learning experience. Last year I shot with a 50mm 1.7 and got a few decent shots. I probably would have a few more if I knew PS as good as I do now after a year of practice.
Also learning your camera's capabilities along with a lens capablitiy really helps. I definitley can see an improvment but there's still alot for me to learn. Here's my latest try. Pleasefeel free toC&C. Equipment used, KM 5D with a 28-75mm 2.8 lens. ISO 1600, Shutter speeds where between 125 to 250 I don't think you could find a more dimly lit gym if you tried. |

One other BIG help was shooting in RAW!

Mike - I like #2 quite a bit - nice shot there.
Shots 1, 3 and 4 have way too much dead space, however. Try to frame a bit tighter - or at least crop down on the action. IMO you'll end up with better results that way. |
Thanks JohnG I agree.
By the way speaking off the subject, I've got a kid brother Named John G. But he's not into photography. |

lomitamike,
When you were shooting these, did you utilize the zoom very much? I can barely catch the action, try to focus, and get everything right with a prime, much less thinking about the zoom! You did a good job with the lighting IMO since these were shot at ISO 1600 and the lense was a 2.8. Chris |

When you were shooting these, did you utilize the zoom very much? Thanks for the reply PhotoDad. To answer your question I previously used my 50mm 1.7 prime but I wanted to get in a little closer. I bought a 28-75 f2.8 since last season and thought I'd give it a try at 75mm f2.8. Under these terrible lighting conditions I felt that it worked OK. The shutter speeds where just enough to get a decent picture. I don't have any longer primes than 50mm. |
