Here is a shot from a high school game earlier this year. Catcher stopping a low pitch with his bare hand. Notice the closed eyes. I seemed to catch closed eyes a lot. Nikon D1h, 80-200 f/2.8, 1/3200 sec f/2.8.

Thanks for commenting. I had long given up on getting any comments. Not the best of my photos from the season, but harsh lighting conditions don't help to make a pretty photo, but I shoot to stop the action. The first photo is one I use for testing new papers to print baseball photos on. I thought it was pretty cool the way I caught the catchers fingers on the ball like that. I posted that photo in another sports forum to zero comments, so it must not be that great of a photo, but I like the shot.
The infield was actually a very fine gravel, so that's why some of the dust appears white. It's the harsh sunlight reflecting off very small pieces of rock. |

I thought I would do a quick reply before shuteye...
Great, clear pictures you've got there. But the first one has me wondering, "what if?" Like, what if he had missed that very low pitch... Ouch, pains me to think about it. Lol. Again, great snaps. You clicked at the perfect time! |

I love the first shot. I'm sure the catcher would love to see it also. I great capture getting his fingers just touching the ball.
I think, "What if his fingers would have been 2 inches lower?" Ouch. Darrell |
