Shooting_Rubber,

Obviously you have a good eye for sports shooting but the problem comes in with either your equipment or settings.

For night/action photography you really need a fast f/2.8 lens because the lighting is so poor. I think I would try to shoot in good light as you will probably have better success.

Are you selling your photos? If so, perhaps you can upgrade equipment/software when you can if night photos are your goal.
I'm on a budget too & understand that $5000 lenses are out of my reach.

I shoot with a Nikon D50 with the following lenses:

Nikon 70-300mm f/4-5.6 (I only use this in daylight, it stinks at night/low light) - light & cheap --> $275

Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 (This is my night/low light lens) --> Heavy & expensive $920

**I'd be curious to hear what other sports shooters have to say - I've been given great advice on these forums!!** :G
