Hi,

Good sharpness in the leading horse in the first two pics and it looks like a lovely day there!!

I find this type of shooting hard as if you have too much dof then everything is sharp including the background and not enough and you have the problem you have with pic 2 where the man is slightly soft. Personally I would have gone for a wide aperture and slow shutter to give the feel of motion such as the shot below which if I recall was taken at 1/160th. Buy doing this then the background is not distracting.
