Nice shot, great white balance.

Nice blurred background.

Good sharp photo.

To be truly fantabulous, the shot looks like it could use a little more headroom and a little more at the bottom.

Hey Barbarian, I finally found out why some sports photogs shoot so tightly cropped. Apparently in the old days they were shooting with 3 meg and 4 meg DSLR's, so they couldn't crop much.

Now the pro's try to shoot wider, and crop later, 'cause some of them are using 12 megapixel cameras, so lots of real estate to work with.

In the old days, I shot with a Nikon F and Tri-X, to keep the shutter speed high. And I used a 200mm Nikkor-Q.

They all still work. Well, the meter prism quit on me some time ago, and the part is unobtainable. The body is scuffed and dinged, but it still takes great pictures.

Unfortunately, not 100 at a time in RAW format.

I feel a little guilty, and take it out now and then, just for old time's sake.

Too bad that "Digital Film" outfit fell apart. If I could get a digital back for that F, I'd be using it all the time.


I guess we'll justhave to disagree on the cropping. I like the impact a tight crop makes.

Yeah Terry. But I shoot tight because the pictures I make are for the Kids and the parents. The bigger their kid is in the frame the better. It doesn't even have to be good. And you can forget about the rule of thirds. They don't want it.

But it also a preference. On this picture, I would crop out the kid's back on the right side of the frame and clone out her arm. Viola! The cute kid in the middle is a star.

Fifteen years of making parents happy.
