Iīm not sure about the shutter speed at maximum length. I donīt think I used the full length on any shot. But in general, I need to get faster shutter speed I think. Itīs just not possible though with my lens if Iīm not pushing the ISO more than 2500, and I think 2500 is the limit for getting okey shots. Best regards/Daniel |

Glass is key, having f5.6 isn't helpful, shooting wider is good but then you crop more so lose the resolution. Best to do things right get the settings correct, frame tight and the good thing with ice hockey is that you can pan a bit and hide some of the blur as they are smoother than someone running (apart from when they accelerate).

That would really help your shooting, but remember you want to be within about 25m with that lens for sharp results, shooting from the stands is going to limit it..... still better than the slow speed of what you have but you are not going to be getting close to what it can do for you.

you need to shoot hockey wide open - 2.8 is a must- ive shot aperture and manual mode both- the attached image is aperture mode,2.8 wide open, iso at 3200- giving you shutters around 400 to 320 of a sec- also if you can get bench access i would recommend that or shoot from the penalty box or score keepers area- use manual white balance, just snap a pic of the ice for this and use it for manual white balance
