I caught a few of these between races. All shot with my D50 and 50/1.8 @ 1.8. Ones with red track was at ISO800 an 1/320ish, with blue track it was ISO 1600 1/250ish

definitely stick with iso1600.

maybe stand back and shoot a little wider as your tending to hack off the runner's feet, etc.

You can always shoot wide and then crop after using software.

try a little fill flash as well. just pop up the flash and blow a little extra light into the scene.

The color balance seems a little off. Try using some software that will let you pick out the "white" in the scene and adjust the color.

Finally, try shooting RAW format, and make cool adjustments using RAWSHOOTER (basic program is free).

The above suggestions should give you something to work on for a while!
