A wonderful 13 year old lady had the honor of throwing the first pitch (a burner and a strike) to open the championship game between Cal and UCLA on May 31st.

Cal was leading 1 - 0 through the 4th, and their pitcher had a perfect game going. First batter up in the 5th for UCLA whacked it waaaay out of the park. It rattled Cal and they wound up allowing two more runs to score that inning, and it was all over. Final - UCLA (again) 3, Cal 1. These ladies can really fire the ball around. This was my first big-time Women's Softball game and I was really impressed with the quality of play. Jennie Lynch, who was the all-star pitcher for AZ when they won it in 2002 is the ESPN color person and I saw her at the game. She is pitching for the USA Softball team in the upcoming Olympics - but anyway, her husband is a major league pitcher for the AZ Diamondbacks, and just on a lark, she has pitched to a number of major league hitters, and was able to strike them out. Long answer to a short question.
