Following advice from JohnG and JimC about how the camera (Nikon D50 using a Tamron 70-300mm lens) should be set up, I went to a friendly match between my team (in yellow) and a local side. The weather was a little cloudy so I had to keep my ISO at around 800 to keep the shutter speed at 1/1000. Anyway these are a few shots.

For a first time out you have done a great job!! The last one is a nice capture, just seems the shutter had dropped a little slow but even so I would be happy.
I would suggest shooting from a lower position and also ensuring that you straighten the shots as this will really help. |

Thanks Mark1616 for those comments and kind words!
I was at ISO 1600 but the light was poor so I think the shutter rate was down to 1/400 when I took it. I had the camera on the "A" setting as advised. Do you know until you mentioned the pics were not straight I hadn't realised, the pitch they were playing on was on one hell of a slope - but I see what you mean now. I will remember the shooting at a lower stance for next time! Cheers Peter |

I think in a previous thread you posted on shooting Football Jim or someone pointed you to this thread I put together some time ago. It's worth looking over a few times before going out to refresh your memory for things to consider (well I'm bias LOL). New to sports shooting and wonder if you can improve?!?! Looks like you had another fun day out shooting.
You've captured some great facial expressions, the next thing it to work on the timing to get the ball in the frame as well which is a lot harder than it looks. Keep at it you will get there, but you are going the right way!! |
