Great shots John, as usual! You have yet to disappoint me with any of your posts! Keep it up!

You highlight a problem that I've been facing, and will continue to face with the darker colors. Since most of what I shoot is one team, I'm constantly battling noise problems with its black/gold uniforms (with a heavy emphasis on black). Dedicated sports lenses are part of the eventual solution, but a higher ISO body would be nice. Unfortunately, that "get out of jail free" card, too, will, I'm sure, come with a hefty price. |

Trojansoc,
I agree - better high ISO does seem to be the trend of the year. It's definitely a boon for us sports shooters. I really like what Nikon did by providing ISO 6400 and pro level focusing in the D300. That really raised the bar. We'll have to see if Pentax really wants to make a push for the action shooters and not only improve their high ISO but also upgrade their focus systems and start to get some lenses to market that help the sports shooter out. Nikon really set a high bar there with the D300. And, of course, Sony is a wildcard. Minolta had arguably the best focus system in their SLR cameras so it will be interesting to see what they do over the next year or so. I'm glad manufacturers are starting to put some emphasis on the mid and upper range DSLRs again and not just entry level. ![]() |

Brilliant shots, John, I don't have to tell you about the advantage layed out nicely by the Mark III, and your shots here demonstrate that "non-flash" advantage very well. It's a fun camera for we who have spent years in dim gyms attempting to get a decent shot without a flash. I recall spending a whole lot of money on the Mark II in hopes that it would solve the problem, and it "almost" did, but not quite. The Mark III finally solves the problem for all of us who hate using flash. Your shots here speak well for that. Thanks for sharing, buddy.

Thanks!
I'm very hopeful the Nikon D300 will live up to the hype. I'm disappointed in Canon to tell you the truth. They continue to hold out focus, and now ISO advancements for only their 1-series line. Then they gouge on the price (jacking it up by $500 after receiving all the pre-release interest). I'm hoping Nikon's decisions to put 6400 and pro-level focusing on the D300 will push Canon to do the same. I honestly believe $3000 is a more reasonable price point for the MkIII so I'm hoping competition will push it down there. |
