If you've had to defend that net, perhaps it's easier to feel the emotional pull of these shots.

For me the it evokes the poignancy of a time I will not see again, and the joy of doing things I can no longer do.

On a related note, a friend of my wife has a daughter who just started competitive soccer (too young, in my opinion; they begin at 10)

But the joy of the game was evident in this shot of her teammate challenging an opposing player.

Not trying to intrude on your thread, but when I see an empty goal, I hear the sounds of play, and see players with that same sense of joy. I know that many believe sports photography is supposed to be about reportage, not art. Too bad.
