Picked up a Tamron 28-85 2.8 Xr Di for my DRebel.... Took it to it's first gymnastics meet this weekend...
Was please with the results. Was the first time at this arena. Lighting was worse than usual. ![]() ![]() ![]() Settings: ISO 800, f2.8 @ 1/100. No flash. PP was usual corrections and USM and did crop this image... Notice how nice the "Elite" shows up on the beam. ![]() |

looks good, how far where you ?
im getting a rebel here soon. looking at the 70-200mm f2.8 usm canon. and maybe one for bball indoors so you having alot of luck with your lenses? bball games and volleyball are bad lighting too. which lens do you like the best so far for indoor bad lights. do you have to adjust much or keep it on auto. i barrowed a friends and took some , they didnt turn out so good. but was just playing around. good luck with indoor stuff !keep posting your pics here are some of my shots www.pbase.com/yankees |

I'm guessing I was 8 to 10 feet away. The seating area was actually above the beam... most meets you are at the floor level.
I can recommend the Sigma 70-200 f2.8 EX APO as a less expensive alternative to the Canon... And when I went looking for a 28-70ish zoom the only Canon in that range seemed to be an L lens for a whole lot of $$$. Ended up with the Tamron... but if I can get close enough I'm still impressed with the $70 Canon 50mm 1.8... ![]() |

yeah that sigma seems like a great one, that french guy just posted some awesome photos and that is what he used.
i think i may do that, the canon is alot heavier too. so im going towards the sigma a little more. So that 50mm does it bother you that you cant zoom at all in and out with it? |

Yes, I noticed those French basketball pictures too! Impressive... I've very happy with the Sigma...
Now as far as the 50mm... yeah being a fixed 50mm is a bit limiting and that why i picked up the Tamron... but when the lighting is really bad it is nice to have a 1.8 lens... and for $70 how can you go wrong? ![]() |
