I put Mark (1616)'s and John G's counsel to work and came up with these from yesterday's girls' high school game. I bumped up the ISO to 1600 and set the exposure to manual at 1/640th of a sec and f/2.8 aperture. I set the WB to a version of fluorescent, but I was not entirely pleased...should have left it on auto. I did not apply any NR (either in the D300s nor in post processing). At the posted image sizes, it is not so visible, but at larger sizes the would need some NR. The 70-200 f/2.8 is a fine piece of glass

Nice freezes of action. Are these with or without a flash?

Nice shots. I like 1, 2, and 3 the best.
In 4 the face is not quite sharp enough and in 5 I always hate when I get the ball either on the floor or almost - makes you wonder if they dropped it. But overall I like them all - very nice shots! Andy |

Thanks Wolverines. These were shot without a flash. Lighting in high school gyms are not great (unlike college or pro arenas). The f/2.8 aperture and high ISO was the only way to freeze the action. I never thought of using a flash due to the distance...should give it a try from the sidelines though.

the Spyder3Pro is a pretty good value and they have been at it for many years.

Now we are talking, much better results so a big pat on the back.
I use the Huey Pro and find it does a great job but the spyder is reported to be right up there at the top. |

I had to laugh when I went to the game this time: the lady at the ticket desk saw my gear and said, "oh you don't have to pay"...figured I was with the press! There was already a press photographer in there dressed in his photo vest and knee pads (cool idea for a hard gym floor)...that's my ticket to free games: my 70-200 f/2.8, a photo vest and knee pads ![]() Last edited by Wingman; Feb 22, 2010 at 12:47 PM. |
